Just 3 weeks left to submit a film to TUFF, the film festival for commuters.
The Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF), the only festival of its kind in North America, is a 10-day long public film festival that reaches over 1.3 million subway commuters daily.
TUFF is looking for the best one-minute silent films from across Canada and around the world.
The festival runs from September 10 – 19, 2010, at the same time as TIFF. Films are presented on the Onestop network of 270 subway platform screens inside the TTC, and featured on the new TUFF website.
Films are selected by a guest jury, with top awards selected by guest judge Deepa Mehta. The TUFF 2010 Jury: Chris Gehman, Min Sook Lee, Jorge Lozano, Kathleen Mullen, Sarah Robayo Sheridan, Haema Sivanesan, and Michael Zryd.
Filmmakers, animators and video artists are invited to submit one-minute silent films that speak to an urban audience. Programming themes this year are: Urban Encounters and Other Stories; Our Environment and Urban Growth; The Medium is the Message; Urban Ideas and Politics; Urban Journeys; The City is a Poem; After Night Falls.

AWARDS AND PRIZES
1st Place – A trip for two (2) to the all-inclusive 5-Star Gran Bahia Principe in Jamaica for 7 nights. Sponsored by BelAirTravel and Sunquest Vacations
Naish McHugh Award For Emerging Filmmakers – $2,500 cash. The winning film will take an inspired view of the city of Toronto, reflecting its unique qualities. The winning film will be selected and awarded by guest judge Deepa Mehta. Emerging filmmakers must live or work in the Greater Toronto Area (416/905 area code) to qualify. Sponsored by the City of Toronto through the TFTO.
Most Ambitious Film by a Female Director – awarded to Ontario-based female director. The winning film will be selected and awarded by guest judge Deepa Mehta. Award includes a complementary one-year membership to WIFT-T, a $1,200.00 WIFT-T programming pass, plus a $1,500 equipment rental credit from Videoscope. Sponsored by WIFT-T and Videoscope.
The Audience Choice Award – for the film that receives the most online votes during the 2010 festival The award includes a complimentary reception and screening at the Drake’s Underground to support the launch of a new film, and four night’s stay at the hotel. Total in-kind value is $4,000, sponsored by the Drake Hotel.
Best Environment Film – Awarded to the best film, in any genre, that marries environmental issues with the art of filmmaking. The winning filmmaker will receive a Canon Rebel Digital SLR Camera Bundle, which is capable of 15.1 MP images and full HD video capture. Prize worth $800.00. Sponsored by Earth Day Canada.
Best in Category Awards – sponsored by Flip Video and a bevy of Toronto Festivals. Winners receive an Flip HD camcorder and passes to one of Toronto’s best film festivals.
